Fashion Week: who to follow

As NYFW kicks off, DP's pick of Instagram influencers.

Is New York Fashion Week your joy or your nightmare? Maybe you have an affinity for crowds, TikTokers jostling for just the right shots, and the standing-room-only tickets. Then again, maybe you don’t. We’ve picked five fabulous influencers to follow on Instagram. These A-listers go to the shows so you don’t have to.

The impresario of Instagram fashion, Eva Chen inhabits the ultimate platform in the fashion industry. Follow this former Lucky and Teen Vogue editor for up-to-the-minute NYFW highlights from her perennial front row seat. Don’t expect slinky vamping for the camera from this power broker. Rather, Chen snaps runway highlights and unscripted moments; she hobnobs with fashion royalty from Anna Wintour to Michael Kors. We love the video montages of her dashing between shows decked in designers’ finest. Universally beloved, Chen is the reigning queen of digital fashion.

We can’t get enough of the Sofia Coppola-meets-Jane Birkin urban vibe of @thefashionguitar created by Groeneveld, a native of The Netherlands who’s made New York her home. Luxe, tasteful and curated with an editor’s eye, @thefashionguitar is a refreshing antidote to the shameless self-promotion of the influencer world. Groeneveld’s stamp of approval is coveted by high-end fashion houses from Chanel and Marc Jacobs to Celine and Balenciaga. Her impeccable NYFW wardrobe, documented with @thefashionguitar’s signature stunning photography, is the epitome of Parisian chic.

A self-described Carrie Bradshaw, Vazzana is a maximalist known for her campy, over-the-top looks, signature spectacles, and limitless footwear collection. Imagine a quirky combination of Iris Apfel mixed with a dose of Lady Gaga and Stacey Bendet. Vazzana’s allure is that she doesn’t take herself too seriously. Her cheeky exuberance and color-saturated looks, ranging from vintage Pucci to Alice & Olivia, keep viewers scrolling. It’s hard to look away from her GRWM (Get Ready with Me) videos from her jam-packed Manhattan closet or her daily recap during fashion week of every outfit she wore. As Vazzana puts it: “Why blend in when you were born to stand out?”

Life is a one big party, and Bernstein lives to get dressed for it. Whether attending Coachella or NYFW, Bernstein turns her fabulous daily grind into a glam photo op. She primps, she vamps, and she strikes a pose, preferably in luxe neutral hues and a sexy crop top revealing her insanely defined abs. Bernstein launched @WeWoreWhat as her college fashion blog in 2010 and morphed it into a global design brand starring herself.

Effortless West Coast chic defines Aimee Song, one of the OG fashion influencers, who has amassed more than seven million followers during her ten plus years on social media. A darling of brands from Hermès to Dior, the social media goddess gave birth to son Teo in 2022, adding a new dimension to her marketability (witness CYBEX strollers and babyGap placements entering her feed). NYFW will be lucky if this A-list influencer graces the front row with her dazzling (yet costly) presence.
