We See You: Elisa Lipsky-Karasz
Elle Décor’s new head of editorial brings decades in fashion and luxury to the decorating and design guide.
DP’s series of the people—young, old, and everyone in between—who most intrigue us.
Why we’re watching her: After more than 13 years at WSJ magazine, Lipsky-Karasz is now helming Elle Décor, where she oversees content development across the brand’s print and digital platforms—well-deserved and long overdue for this hardworking and fashion-forward journo. Lipsky-Karasz is familiar with Hearst Tower’s Norman Foster-designed, three-story atrium—she previously served as Features Director at Harper’s Bazaar.
Pedigree: Lipsky-Karasz grew up primarily in Brooklyn Heights, though she was born in Chile during her father’s posting for the IMF. She went to Dalton, and graduated from Princeton with a Comparative Literature degree.
Prodigious work ethic: During her tenure at WSJ, Lipsky-Karasz’s interviews and stories were wide-ranging: Apple’s Jony Ive, Laurene Powell Jobs, Karlie Kloss, Dasha Zhukova, Larry Gagosian, and Virgil Abloh—to name a few. With a foot in the worlds of fashion, trends, culture, design, and art, we can’t wait to see who she’ll feature in Elle Décor.
Living the life. In 2007, when an associate editor at Women’s Wear Daily, and W, she described her job to Princeton Alumni Weekly: “We—the people I work with and I—cover all the major New York parties and events, the big movie premieres. We have the ability to interview people we admire. . . I’ll never get tired of that.” We couldn’t agree more.
Pony up: A horse lover since a small child, Lipsky-Karasz wrote in a WSJ holiday gift guide: “I grew up doing three-day eventing (a combination of dressage, cross-country, and show jumping), so at the top of my list would be a horse from Biddesden. This British stud farm bred and owned one of my favorite eventing horses of all time, the late Olympic champion Tamarillo. I would take his descendent, Telemacho, with a big red bow and a carrot.”
Party spirit animal: The bluebird, known for its flexibility, innovation, and promise of new beginnings.
Prediction: With her great taste, popularity, and luxury credentials, we see Lipsky-Karasz doing great things at Elle Décor for many years to come.
