We see you: Nicky Dessources
Salon Art + Design’s new executive director is looking to expand the mission of its signature Park Avenue Armory fair
DP’s series of the people—young, old, and everyone in between—who most intrigue us.
Why we’re watching her: Recently named Executive Director of Salon Art + Design, Dessources oversees the organization’s all-important (and very social) art fair at the Park Avenue Armory in Manhattan and is spearheading its expansion to Dallas.
Pedigree: Born in New York, she spent her childhood in Haiti. “From a young age, Dessources’ fascination with art has been a guiding thread throughout her life,” according to Art Daily. After graduating from the City College of New York, she worked at the Steve McCurry Studio and Richard Avedon Foundation before establishing her own photography company. She moved on to art fair behemoth Sanford L. Smith + Associates before stepping into her current role.
It’s all about reach: Dessources’ mission is to expand the Armory show’s representation and reach. “I want the fair to be a space that fosters a diverse range of backgrounds and genres,” she told Elle Décor. “By creating inclusive spaces and opportunities, we can challenge the status quo and celebrate a wide range of perspectives.” One of her first steps: bringing the nonprofit network Black Folks in Design into the fold.
A little bling never hurt: Dessources championed bringing jewelry exhibitors to the Armory show this past November for the first time—and she walks the talk. For a meet and greet with Town & Country, she sported red lips and diamond earrings made by jeweler Fernando Jorge.
Texas hold ’em: “In Dallas, we’re excited to collaborate with artists, galleries, and institutions that are already shaping the city’s vibrant cultural identity,” Dessources told the Observer. “Our goal is to amplify this energy, foster dialogue, and create opportunities for connection that inspire both collectors and creators.”
Party spirit animal: The butterfly, prized for its creativity, joy, and transformation.
Prediction: Why stop at Texas? For Dessources, we predict all will be (art) fair in the coming years.
