Fashion stylist Kate Young

Movers & Shakers

We see you: Kate Young

The celebrity stylist who dresses some of the biggest names in Hollywood.

DP’s series of the people—young, old, and everyone in between—who most intrigue us.

Why we’re watching her: Young, the go-to stylist for red carpet moments, was named Best Celebrity Stylist at the 2025 WWD Style Awards, Stylist of the Year by InStyle and has been included on The Hollywood Reporter’s “Most Powerful Stylists.” More than once, btw.

On speed dial: Her sorority of clients has included Natalie Portman, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz, Selma Hayek, Margot Robbie, Jennifer Lawrence, Selena Gomez, Dakota Johnson, Julianne Moore, and Scarlett Johansson. (There are more, but you get the idea.)

Pedigree: Young grew up in Pennsylvania and went to college at Oxford. “I was always into fashion. I wanted to go to FIT because my friend’s older sister went there,” she told Into The Gloss, adding that her parents laughed at the idea. “Everybody in my family is a teacher or a professor, so I figured I’d probably be a librarian or something. I didn’t know how to make fashion a job.” When Young’s mom was anxious for her to return state-side, though, she set up an interview at Condé Nast thanks to a hometown friend who just happened to be the art director at Glamour. Lo-and-behold, a job at Vogue magically appeared.

Transferable skills: Studying English and Art History at Oxford ended up coming in handy. “They had us write papers once a week, and then defend our arguments in front of the whole class,” Young told the BBC: “What great training to stand in front of a movie studio and explain why their biggest, most bankable star should wear something that might be a little risky!”

Catch her in the wild: When she’s not holed up in Hollywood for awards prep, Young and her husband, Keith Abrahamsson, who founded the indie music label Mexican Summer with Andrés Santo Domingo, live in NYC with their two teenage sons and have a weekend house upstate.

Intimacy issues: “Work is so much better when you have friends,” Young told the BBC.  “You’re going to be seeing your clients naked every day. You’ll know when they’re sick or pregnant, or trying to get pregnant. It makes you very close to people very quickly. It’s not something you can study or prepare for. It’s just what happens when someone’s in their underwear and the Oscars are two hours away.’”

Party spirit animal: The bluebird, prized for its flexibility, innovation, and drive for glory.

Prediction: Between dressing her clients for awards shows and winning her own awards, Young will surely have to make room for a new slew of statuettes.
