Movers & Shakers
We see you: Alexandre Arnault
The middle child of five LVMH offspring is shaking things up at Tiffany.
The people—young, old, and everyone in between—who most intrigue us.
Why we’re watching him: Alexandre (Alex to his friends), 32, is the son of Bernard Arnault, CEO of luxury powerhouse LVMH and, as of May 2024, the world’s richest man. (Unlike Bezos and Musk, Papa Arnault does not feel the need to build rockets.) Before you start shouting “nepo baby,” take note: Alexandre is no slacker. As Executive Vice President of Product and Communications at Tiffany, he has reinserted the brand into the cultural zeitgeist.
Haute nerd: According to Business of Fashion, Alexandre “comes from a digital background, originally graduating from Télécom Paris Tech before going on to gain a master of research in innovation from École Polytechnique. He has been an influential force in pushing digital to the forefront of LVMH’s agenda.” Throw this in for good measure: He speaks French, English, and German fluently, is an accomplished pianist, ran the NYC marathon in under three hours, and is, by all accounts, a generally nice guy.
Catch him in the wild: Considering LVMH is sponsoring the Olympics in Paris this summer, we expect to see Alexandre hopping between events with the best seats in the house.
La Succession: LVMH—which owns everything from Louis Vuitton and Dior to Veuve Clicquot and Sephora—is strictly a family affair. All of Bernard Arnault’s five children run divisions and have seats on the board. While no successor has been named, reports are that all five kids have a good relationship with each other and their father. According to CNN, Arnault Sr. has been deeply invested in “raising, educating and evaluating” each of his five offspring. The report went on to say that “far from fostering discord, Arnault has ensured harmony but with a cold eye on business.” The whole clan meets once a month in Paris for lunch where, according to the Daily Mail, the kids are in for “friendly” grilling on everything from business to tennis.
It’s all about love: Alexandre started shaking things at Tiffany as soon as he got there. Among his power moves was launching the ‘“About Love” campaign with Beyoncé and Jay-Z. (Bey serenaded Jay with Moon River while wearing an 18k yellow diamond.) As part of the collab, Tiffany has committed $2 million funding for students in the arts at Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Dubious distinction: According to Business of Fashion, “in January 2017 [Alexandre] accompanied his father to Trump Tower for a meet with the US president-elect just weeks before his inauguration. He was the only one of Bernard Arnault’s offspring to accompany him.”
The wedding band: Guests at Alexandre’s 2021 wedding to Géraldine Guyot in Venice included Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Roger Federer, and Pharrell Williams, according to Vogue. Multiple reports say West serenaded the party with a few of his hits. (This was before he went off the rails.)
A downtown guy at heart: Alexandre forked over approximately $18 million last year for a nearly 4,000 square feet apartment in Robert A.M. Stern Architects-designed 30 Park Place, according to Maison Global. The four-bedroom abode has two terraces, views from the Hudson to East River, an oval reception foyer with white oak herringbone floors and blue lacquered walls, and a great room lined with white lacquer as a corner living and dining room with a gas fireplace.
Starting ’em young: Tiffany is “present in peoples’ lives from very early on,” Alexandre told The Week . “Sometimes even from birth. I just had a baby and I received a lot of Tiffany birth presents. We are one of the few brands, if not the only brand, that is able to do that.”
Party spirit: The flamingo, known to be goal oriented and clear sighted, with an eye on love, power, and happiness.
Prediction: Papa Arnaud is not set to retire until 2029 so despite all the familial bonhomie, we wouldn’t be surprised for there to be some jockeyed for position behind luxe curtains.
