We see you: Katherine Gage Boulud

The wife of Michelin-starred Daniel pairs advocating for healthy eating with promoting brand Boulud

DP’s series of the people—young, old, and everyone in between—who most intrigue us.

Why we’re watching her: KGB, 41, wife of famed restaurateur Daniel Boulud, 69, is adding spice of her own to the social circuit from Manhattan to Palm Beach.

Yes, chef: After getting her start at Café Boulud in Palm Beach, KGB worked in DB’s kitchens for five years before they wed in a 2013 extravaganza at the Glenmere Mansion in upstate New York, according to the Daily Mail

Pedigree: The budding chef (while still Ms. Gage) went to culinary school in Florida after attending Trinity College in Connecticut. A year and a half later, she moved to New York to work in the catering division of Restaurant Daniel. She now serves as Brand Ambassador for her hubby’s Dinex Group.

Like so many things, it started with a party. “After dabbling in media and politics post-college, my passion for hosting dinner parties steered me back to the kitchen,” KGB told Resident. “My culinary journey was enriched by international travel.” She sharpened her knife in kitchens in Paris, Bali, and the South of France where, she says, she embraced “the hospitality industry’s communal spirit.”

She loves to spoon: KGB serves on the Board of Directors of Spoons Across America, a non-profit dedicated to cultivating healthier food choices among children. She told Resident that she first got involved through her aunt. “Originally a chef, I transitioned into nutrition after getting married, returning to school for a Bachelor of Science and later a Master of Science in Nutrition Education. The organization’s mission to educate children on healthy eating and integrate better meals into school cafeterias immediately resonated with me.”

Kitchen duty: The Bouluds, who have two young children, divide their time between homes in Manhattan and Bedford, NY. “My city kitchen is sleek, with clean lines and lots of chrome,” DB told Elle Décor, “but I wanted my country kitchen a little softer, calling to mind a Provençal farmhouse. My wife and I designed it togetherCooking is also a joint effort in our household: Katherine usually handles breakfast and lunch, and then I’ll take care of dinner.”

Catch her in the wild: KGB cuts a stylish figure at benefits from the Central Park Conservancy to the tony Metropolitan Club. Despite all the gourmet dining, she can still rock a pair of leather hot pants.

Party spirit animal: The kingfisher—cosmopolitan, adaptable, and known for its bright plumage.

Prediction: The Boulud empire already has 21 restaurants, including the recently opened Café Boulud in Riyadh, where alcohol is verboten. We predict KGB may offer her husband a very fine Bordeaux when he returns home.
